Why do you need a personal brand?
The economy may be recovering, but unfortunately many companies find themselves making tough choices. Even Fortune 500 companies such as Cisco have had to cut back. Long before the company you work for thinks about cutting back on personnel, as an employee, you need to make a strong presence that cannot be overlooked and is recognized by your colleagues and your bosses.
With a strong personal brand, you will stand out among your peers and you will have communicated such value to an organization that hopefully you are indispensable. Even if the ‘position’ you have been working is eliminated, you will still be known as a key employee that will help keep the company going during difficult times. Your personal brand will make you unique and invaluable. It is not that nobody else can fill the job description, it's the way that you do it and what you bring to it that is important. Even if you do get cut during a round of layoffs, having a strong personal brand will help you get noticed and get back on your feet faster. You won't be lost in the fray, you will still be moving towards your goals. Other companies will know who you are and jump at the opportunity to scoop up such a valuable player. These are uncertain times for any employee. But what will see you through, no matter what kind of work you have, is a strong personal brand. It will help keep you and your career moving forward during difficult times. To learn more about getting your personal brand, email Cyndee Woolley.
